5 easy ways for link buiding

The following list explains 5 different ways to boost links and increase traffic:

1. Create a List: People are attracted to titles like “Top Ten Ways to ___” or “Learn ___ in 5 Easy Steps.” Lists of helpful tidbits are easy to read and attractive to the reader on the go. Information that could be turned into a list include names of experts, strategies to accomplish a goal, tips, resources, etc. Including list-like articles in your electronic newsletter boost readership and drive more traffic to your Web site.

2. Article Submissions: Writing articles and submitting them to various article submissions sites, may be one of the best ways to get exposure. Targeted groups may stumble upon your article and consider you an expert. These types of practices build trust and, in return, boost traffic. Some sites to check out include EzineArticles, GoArticles, and iSnare.

3. Social Bookmarking: Sites like Del.icio.us and Digg are becoming more and more popular. These types of sites are ways for Internet users to store, organize, share and search bookmarks of web pages. In a social bookmarking system, users save links to web pages that they want to remember and/or share. If a site related or linked to yours is tagged, there is a chance that interested readers may find your site too.

4. Local Links: Don’t forget to check that you have a link from area organizations too. Chambers of commerce and libraries usually have outgoing links to area businesses. If you part of member organizations, a link on their site is normally a part of membership rights.

5. RSS-ify: If there are lists of articles, events, or press releases that are regularly updated, it may be a good idea to turned them into an RSS feed. RSS is a Web technology that is rapidly gaining popularity. People are adopting RSS readers and adding their favorite sites for updated information, like news and events.

These five tips are just a few ways to help build links to your site. For more information on building links or driving traffic to your site, contact us for advice.

What is Link Building?

In order to get your site listed in the search engines for keywords that you are focussing on your best bet will be to get “Link Building”. Link building is where you have external sites (outside of your own) linking to your site with terms (anchor text) that meet the keyword needs that you want to draw visitors to your site with.

To give you an example, if my site was related to cricket bats and the keywords I was focussing on for SEO terms was cricket bats then I would do the following. I would contact external sporting associated websites and ask if they could place a link to my homepage with the term “Cricket Bats” as the anchored text. I would do this for a few external sites, and then for a few others I would change the anchored text slightly to “Cricket” and “Bats” and “Cricket Gloves” also for example. The point I am trying to get across is that you do not want to just have one main term - you want to also build links to your site around other terms. One other factor you also need to consider is not just to focus on your homepage, but to also focus on some of the pages that are much deeper down in your site to be linked to from external sites. So if you have a page about Cricket Bat Care then get an external site to deeplink into this page with the term “Cricket Bat Care”.

The next phase of link building is choosing the right external sites, you do not just want to pick any and every site to get links from. Ideally, you need to pick sites that are relavant to the content you are displaying on your site. This is far easier said than done but if you can then this is the way forward. It would also be of benefit to get sites that have a high Google Page Rank to link to you… again this is not always easy but it can be an important factor in getting indexed quickly, regularly and also boosting your own ranking in the search engine so don’t underestimate it.
